Have you ever walked though tall grass, or along the edge of a field or forest and come away with little burs stuck to your clothes? Those were likely the seed capsules of the biennial weed common burdock (Arctium pubens). One chance encounter with burdock back in 1948 gave way to the invention of Velcro. This week I saw common burdock in bloom in Gratiot county.

Since I take so many photos of weeds I thought it would be fun to start a series of posts called “Weedy Wonder of the Week”. I particularly like to photograph weed flowers and this week I found some creatures at the Kellogg Biological Station that share in my affinity for bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare) blooms.
